Lung transplantation and cystic fibrosis

The focus of scientific projects concerning lung transplantation is mainly the pathogenesis, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of chronic allograft dysfunction (CLAD). Other topics include the effects of viral respiratory diseases (community-acquired respiratory viral infection, CARVI), for example, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus or human metapneumovirus, on lung function and survival in patients after lung transplantation. Our clinical and scientific research includes single and multicenter studies which specifically evaluate long-term results after lung transplantation.

We collaborate with lung transplant centers worldwide and are actively involved in national and international professional societies. We also work closely with the care team for adults with CF and the lung transplantation surgical team at the University Hospital Zurich. With its lung transplantation program, the University Hospital Zurich represents one of the world's leading centers in terms of long-term results after lung transplantation, as compared to annual results of the international registry published by the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT).
